✍️ What to Do in Insadong: A Pottery Experience at Ssamziegil
If you’re looking for unique things to do in Insadong,
don’t just walk around the shops — try a hands-on cultural experience.
On a recent visit to Insadong with my child,
we unexpectedly discovered a pottery wheel experience right in the middle of Ssamziegil.

🏡 A Relaxed Morning in Insadong
We arrived early in the morning, and Insadong felt calm and peaceful.
But as the afternoon approached, the streets quickly filled up with people.
It was interesting to see a mix of local families enjoying a day out with their kids
and many international visitors exploring the area.
After having lunch and coffee, we decided to take a walk and stopped by
👉 Ssamziegil,
one of the most popular places to visit in Insadong.

🎨Insadong Pottery Experience at Ssamziegil
While walking through Ssamziegil,
we noticed a pottery experience happening at the central plaza.
It turned out to be a promotional event for the
👉 Mungyeong Traditional Chasabal Festival,
which takes place from May 1 to May 10 at
👉 Mungyeongsaejae Provincial Park.

Mungyeong is well known in Korea for its traditional ceramics,
so this was a great way to introduce the festival to visitors in Seoul.

🌀 Trying the Pottery Wheel (With a Kid!)
The pottery experience was open to everyone —
not just kids, but also adults and even foreign visitors.
Since it looked like something my child would enjoy,
we decided to wait in line and give it a try.
Even though we joined by chance,
it turned out to be one of the most memorable parts of our day.
- Easy enough for beginners
- Fun for both kids and adults
- A rare hands-on cultural activity in the city
If you’re searching for a Korean pottery experience in Insadong,
this is exactly the kind of activity you don’t want to miss.

🛍️ Exploring Ssamziegil After the Experience
After the pottery activity, we continued exploring Ssamziegil.
The building itself is designed like a spiral walkway,
so you can slowly walk up while browsing different shops along the way.
There were many interesting stores, and we ended up doing a bit of shopping too.
My child even tried a keyring-making activity,
which added another fun memory to the visit.
At the very top, there’s also a café —
a perfect spot to relax with a cup of coffee after walking around.

✨ Final Thoughts
If you’re visiting Insadong and wondering what to do,
Ssamziegil offers more than just shopping.
From cultural experiences like pottery making
to small creative activities for kids,
it’s a place where you can actually experience Korean culture — not just see it.
