🍚 What is Sotbap? A Korean Pot Rice Experience in Insadong
If you’re looking for a truly Korean meal in Seoul, sotbap (Korean pot rice) is something you shouldn’t miss.
It’s not as globally famous as Korean BBQ or bibimbap,
but once you try it, you’ll understand why locals love it so much 😊

🍲 What is Sotbap (Korean Pot Rice)?
Sotbap is rice cooked in a small pot, inspired by traditional Korean cooking methods.
In the past, Korean families used large iron pots to cook rice over fire.
Because these pots were heavy and sealed tightly, the pressure made the rice incredibly soft and flavorful.
At the bottom of the pot, the rice becomes slightly crispy —
this is called nurungji (scorched rice), and it’s one of the best parts of the meal.
It’s warm, nutty, and comforting — something both kids and adults really enjoy.

🍴 How to Eat Sotbap (Step-by-Step)
One of the most interesting things about sotbap is that it’s not just food — it’s an experience.
Here’s how to eat it:
- First, take a moment to enjoy the beautiful presentation
- Move the rice and toppings into a separate bowl
- Leave the crispy rice at the bottom of the pot
- Pour hot water into the pot and close the lid
- Mix your rice with sauce and enjoy your meal
- Finish with the softened nurungji — warm and comforting 😊
