Exploring Seongsu Seoul with Kids
Last Saturday, my husband, my child, and I visited Seongsu in Seoul, one of the trendiest neighborhoods in the city right now.
Seongsu Seoul has quickly become one of the trendiest neighborhoods in the city, known for its cafes, pop-up stores, and unique street atmosphere.
We arrived around lunchtime, and the streets were already packed with people. I had visited Seongsu once or twice in the past few years with friends, but it definitely felt much more crowded this time. It seems like the area has become extremely popular, especially with international tourists. Walking around, it almost felt like the crowd was half Korean and half foreign visitors.
One of the places drawing a huge crowd was Maman Gelato, a dessert café that has gone viral on social media recently. The line was incredibly long, which really showed how popular Seongsu has become.

Why Seongsu Became One of the Trendiest Neighborhoods in Seoul
Seongsu wasn’t always the trendy destination it is today. In the past, the area was mainly known as an industrial neighborhood filled with small factories and warehouses, especially shoe manufacturing workshops. For many years, Seongsu was more of a working district than a place people would visit for leisure.
However, over the last decade, many of these old factories have been renovated and transformed into stylish cafes, restaurants, galleries, and pop-up stores. The industrial buildings, with their high ceilings and raw concrete structures, created a unique atmosphere that designers and young entrepreneurs were drawn to.
Because of this transformation, Seongsu is often compared to Brooklyn in New York, earning the nickname “The Brooklyn of Seoul.” Today, the neighborhood is known for its trendy cafes, fashion stores, art spaces, and constantly changing pop-up events.
Thanks to social media and word of mouth, Seongsu has quickly become a must-visit destination for both locals and international visitors who want to experience Seoul’s creative and youthful culture.

Things to Do in Seongsu Seoul
One of the reasons Seongsu has become such a popular destination is that there are so many different things to do within a small area. Walking through the streets, visitors can easily spend an entire afternoon exploring cafés, pop-up stores, fashion shops, and unique local brands.
One of the biggest attractions in Seongsu is its trendy café culture. Many cafés are located inside renovated factory buildings, giving them a distinctive industrial atmosphere that you won’t easily find in other neighborhoods of Seoul. From specialty coffee shops to viral dessert cafés like Maman Gelato, the area is full of places worth stopping by.
Seongsu is also known for its temporary pop-up stores and brand events. Fashion brands and popular characters frequently open limited-time pop-ups here, which is why the neighborhood constantly feels fresh and exciting. During our visit, we planned to check out both the Teenieping pop-up store and the Nike Max 95 pop-up store.
In addition to cafés and pop-ups, Seongsu is a great place for shopping and exploring unique local brands. Stores like Musinsa and Blue Elephant attract visitors who are interested in Korean fashion and lifestyle trends.
Because everything is located close together, the best way to experience Seongsu is simply to walk through the streets and discover places along the way.

Our Plan for the Day
Our family came to Seongsu for a few simple reasons:
- Lunch in the neighborhood
- Visiting the Teenieping Seongsu store
- Checking out the Nike Max 95 pop-up store
Because Seongsu is such a hot area right now, it was impossible to get into a restaurant immediately. We added our name to the waiting list using Catch Table, and the estimated waiting time ended up being over an hour.
Luckily, waiting in Seongsu didn’t feel too tiring. The neighborhood is full of interesting alleys, shops, and cafés, so there was always something to look at while walking around.
If you’re wondering where to eat in Seongsu with kids, I’ve also put together a detailed guide to a kid-friendly restaurant and cafe course, including gyukatsu and bakery spots. You can check out my full Seongsu food guide here.

Walking Around the Streets of Seongsu
One store that immediately caught my attention was Blue Elephant. The store itself was surprisingly large, and the open space in front of the entrance created a very relaxed atmosphere. Many people were sitting outside just enjoying the space.
There was already a long line to enter the store, which surprised me. I had heard of the brand before but didn’t realize it was this popular.
Another interesting thing I noticed was the number of families with children walking around the area. Seongsu is often known as a trendy district for young adults, but because of the Teenieping pop-up store, I saw many families with kids around my child’s age.

A Quick Snack While Waiting
While we were waiting for our restaurant table, my child started getting hungry, so we bought a salt bread (sogeumbbang) from a nearby bakery.
It turned out to be surprisingly delicious — crispy on the outside and soft inside. Sometimes the simplest snacks become the most memorable part of a trip.

Why Seongsu Is Worth Visiting
To be honest, I usually dislike places that are too crowded or require long waiting times. But Seongsu felt a little different.
The weather that day was perfect, and the neighborhood had so many interesting things to see — cafés, pop-ups, shops, and beautiful streets. Even with the long wait for lunch, walking around Seongsu was still enjoyable.
After spending the afternoon exploring the area, I could understand why so many people — including international visitors — are choosing Seongsu as a must-visit destination in Seoul.
And despite the crowds, I would definitely like to visit Seongsu again sometime soon.
